Choosing the Right Skirt
When choosing your skirt, pay attention to the drape of the fabric. Does it hang shapelesly or does it ease over your silhouette?

I have no hips, what skirts can give me more shape?
You have quite a few options. A pencil skirt with a body skimming fit that narrows at the knee will give you the appearance to a curvier silhouette. Godet, torso, flare, and circle skirts and sarongs will also provide more shape to your silhouette. Remember, you want skirts that have shape in fabrics that drape well, not hang shapelessly from you body.

I have full hips, what skirts should i wear?

To avoid exaggerating the width of your hips make sure your skirt has enough ease throughout the hip and thighs. The natural curves of your body look great in fabric that drape in A-line shapes, circle, and bias skirts. When wearing pencil skirts be cautious of hemlines that are very tapered. Straight skirts also have a slimming effect on your lower body.

How do I minimize the size of my bottom?

You want skirts to ease over you bottom and not cling so check for proper construction, like darts for the best shaping. Skirts like godet, a-line, and straight skirts minimize the appearance of a full bottom.

I have short legs, where should my skirt fall?

Your best lenghts range from mini to mid calf worn with heels. Shorter skirts visually lengthen your legs, giving your body a more balanced appearance.

My upper body is wider than my lower body, what should I look for in a skirt?
Look for skirts that flare along the hem line because they will give you a visual balance between your upper and lower body. A-line skirts and flare skirts, and circle skirts are a few examples.

What skirts will make my bottom look more shapely?

Avoid skirts that have a boxy cut and hang from your body. Look for skirts that skim along the hips and thighs and then flare out slightly for an appealing silhouette. Fishtail skirts do this very well. Look for contoured waistbands on skirts for the illusion of more shape.
How come my skirts make me look short-waisted?
This probably has everything to do with where your skirt is resting. If you have a shorter torso, your skirt should rest at your low hip to give the illusion of a longer torso. Torso skirts will also provide you with a longer line.
