Summer dresses epitomize warm weather fashion, and choosing the right dress can make all the difference between shabby or chic. Whether you’re sporty, girly, or somewhere in between you’ll want to choose the right color and silhouette for eye-catching summer style.

To get the skinny on this summer wardrobe essential I teamed up with Brittin Asbury of clothing boutique Loft 22.

BBS: What are the warm weather trends for fun, but stylish summer dresses?

BA: Strapless mini dresses, long maxi dresses and rich vibrant colors are very popular this summer! Super bright dresses in coral, neon yellow, bright pink, and spring green are very big this season. Anything in any shade of orange; whether its sherbet, coral, poppy, pumpkin, tangerine, neon orange is definitely on trend.

BBS: I love how the variety of colors and shades makes it easier to pick out colors that flatter nearly every skin tone, but what about silhouettes? What tips do you have for picking out the right summer dress to flatter your body type?

BA: The length of maxi dresses can be overwhelming on petite, shorter frames. If you have great legs….rock the mini dresses and skirts that are popular right now.

Pear shaped figures should go for A-line styles to minimize the lower half.

Go for belted dresses or add your own belt to play up curves and accentuate your waist.

Details on top like ruffles or bows add volume for smaller chests.

Halter styles are great for larger chests and give better support than strapless styles.

BBS: What favorites will Loft 22 carry this season for our local fashion mavens?

BA: Orion Belted Dresses from London. They have cute patterns and can transition into fall with leggings or boots.
